Wordless Wednesday…..

When Blood and Birth were considered CLEAN

When Blood and Birth were considered CLEAN

Thought I’d try this Wordless Wednesday style post. I give you a question….

Do any of you remember when Blood and Birth were considered CLEAN?

No gloves needed or used unless you would be STERILE or handling contaminated items??

Anyone??

No gloves

No gloves

  1. I’ve been a nurse since 2001, so I cannot say that I “remember” those times of no gloves. Gives me shivers seeing the nurse hold the baby up without gloves on!

      I know, I know….
We never wore gloves in the delivery room. It’s unreal to think about it
      now.
I think we started in the mid 80’s…consistently anyway.
I’m Foaming In and Foaming Out so much, my skins irritated.
I knew I was older than all ya all.. LOL
      A lifetime ago. Thanks

I see a lot of midwife births (like on YouTube videos) or home births in which they’re not wearing gloves.

I can understand why they wear gloves now, though!

    Precious pictures of the baby!

  3. Really beautiful pictures. Thank you. There’s something calming about seeing a baby touched by warm hands as opposed to cold latex.

Have to agree with you there… I sometimes forget, do some care for the baby and then go wash— because it does seem so natural. My favorite is to keep the baby right on the chest and do everything I need to do right there.

  4. I so remember those days! We gloved only for known cases of Hepatitis B and sanctioned infection control included the sage advice, “You have to consider what message doning gloves sends to the patient.” Having survived using vernix for hand cream, it’s no wonder I’m now the evidenced-based care queen.
